Nokia Maps Voice Guided, Walk Navigation On Android & iOS
Nokia Maps is deemed to be one of the best navigation services. Until now, using Nokia maps, you could get directions, search places and share them with friends. With the latest addition, now you have voice-guided, turn-by-turn walk navigation on the Android and iOS platforms, but sadly not on Windows devices yet. It's important to note that Nokia Maps is only available as a web app, so we hope that this is just a stepping stone towards developing a native version.

So, now you can access #-Link-Snipped-# and it's extensive Places directory from an iPhone, iPad or Android (2.3) device. Interestingly, Nokia Maps now gives you option to choose between text and audio. While walking from point A to point B, just tap the route icon. The application will give you audio directions. It will precisely give you voice commands like âturn leftâ, or âturn rightâ. But there is a glitch, to give you this listening feedback it will load an audio file of nearly 2MB. Plus, the app needs your permission to access your location every time you use the app. There is no mechanism for remembering your location. Moreover, the voice navigation will only works when you are travelling on on foot.
Nokia Maps support different map views, namely Default view, Satellite view, Public transport view; and Live traffic view. Here's a screenshot of the public transport view -

Back in 2010, we got the news about Nokia Maps becoming the core to Microsoftâs mapping service, so it's quite surprising to see that Nokia is expanding it's service on platforms other than that of Microsoft. And now, Nokia Maps are trying to become a direct competitor of Google Maps, which by the way are already available on both Android & iOS platforms.
