NEC Working On Japan's First 100Gbps DWDM Fiber Cable Transmission

With the ever-growing use of smartphones, video sites and SNS, Japan has felt a need to strengthen its network infrastructure. After the East-Japan's earthquake disaster from march 2011 , Japan is now set out to create a robust, highly reliable network. Therefore, the country is building its first reliable DWDM transmission of 100Gbps per wavelength. The commercial fiber cable is going to connect the 710km distance between Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka. NEC Contributes to Japan's First 100Gbps-DWDM Fiber Cable Transmission: Press Releases | NEC's 100Gbps-DWDM transmission system, the "SpectralWave DW7000" has participated in the testing of the same.

During the tests, the company was faced with a lot of challenges due to fluctuations in optical signal, loss due to transmission route changes and variability in optical fiber characteristics. So, to address these issues NEC used a transponder equipped with its internally developed 100G DP-QPSK digital coherent optical transceiver module and the results were amazing. They found out that the transmission capacity that they got was 5.5 times greater than the existing "SpectralWave DW4200" equipment using the same transmission route.

Another good feature is that reconfiguration is possible from remote locations in an instant, so in case of a failure, the transmission can be quickly restored. Moreover, the new system can successfully operate through existing DSF optical fiber cable. Good news, isn't it?
