Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio 4 Released!

Microsoft Robotics has #-Link-Snipped-# that the Robotics Developer Studio (RDS) 4 has been released and it can be used commercially. Microsoft's Robotics arm aims to turn robots into economical mainstream consumer devices. Microsoft, already a global leader in software is investing in bridging the gap between the #-Link-Snipped-# technology and robotics. The RDS 4 makes it easier for the developers to build applications and simulate robots. The latest version of the robotics developer studio adds support for the Kinect sensor and totally eliminates the need of buying a separate hardware to make sure everything works together. That means, you can add Kinect functionality to your robot and simulate it before actually assembling your robot.

To help you with the hardware design, Microsoft Robotics has published Reference Platform Design Specifications [#-Link-Snipped-#]  for a standard Kinect based robot. #-Link-Snipped-# from Parallax Inc offers a hardware kit compatible with RDS 4 & Kinect for about $1249. In addition, the RDS 4 supports MS .Net Framework 4.0 and as you'd guess, Silverlight 4.0. The software license allows you commercial use and gives you a chance to turn your hobby into a small home based business.

We've a video from MS Robotics that talks about the RDS 4.0 system and how it can be used. You may get further information and access to downloads from #-Link-Snipped-#:-
