Lockheed Martin & LaserMotive's Stalker UAS In Flight For 48+ Hours!
Lockheed Martin and LaserMotive, Inc. have co-developed an innovative laser-powered Stalker Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) that extends the flight time to more than 48 hours. Since 2006, this Stalker drone was used by Special Operations Forces to perform intelligence and surveillance missions. These companies had set out to build a laser-powered ground-to-air recharging system that can transfer energy wirelessly over long distances, thereby achieving an unlimited flight endurance. And the results they achieved were remarkable. After the flight's indoor test, the battery on the Stalker UAS had more energy stored than it did at the beginning of the test.

Once they perform successful outdoor tests, we can expect laser-powered systems that ensure non-stop flights, enough to keep defense contractors excited. All this means that we are transmitting energy without wires. Check out this video from LaserMotive, LLC that explains what is power beaming, and what are its near-term applications -
