Kobo Glo HD eReader Launched At $129.99 To Take On Amazon's Kindle Voyage

Rakuten-owned Kobo has announced the launch of a new ebook reader, called ‘Kobo Glo HD’ bearing a price-tag of $129.99 (approx. Rs 8000). The eReader will be available in black colour from May 1 in the countries - US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Later, it will hit other markets across the globe. According to the company, the latest premium eReader sports highest resolution display at the lowest price when compared to other e-book devices in the market. Powered by a 1 GHz processor, Kobo Glo HD comes with 4 GB of on-board storage which is sufficient for storing thousands of eBooks for reading on the go. The 6-inch touchscreen with Carta E Ink HD technology renders resolution of 1448 x 1072 pixels and 300 pixels-per-inch (PPI). As per the company, owing to Carta E Ink HD feature this eReader provides clear print-on-paper experience. The Carta E Ink technology was previously used in Kobo Aura H2O that was launched by the company in August, last year. The purse or jacket pocket friendly Kobo Glo HD measures 157 x 115 x 9.2 mm and weighs 180 g. It encloses ComfortLight technology that allows the readers to read comfortably even in the dark.

Talking about the battery, it can work up to two months only when 30 minutes of daily reading is taken into consideration along with the ComfortLight and Wi-Fi turned off. For wireless communication, the eReader comes with Wi-Fi connectivity but does not offer cellular option. In order to improve eReading experience of the booklovers and digital enthusiasts, Kobo Glo HD houses 11 font styles and 48 size options. Other features include highlight text, make bookmarks, take notes, and track stats for finding out reading habits of the users like average reading speed, page turns, et al.


Some of the specs and features of Kobo Glo HD are similar to Amazon Launches Kindle Voyage: A $199 E-Book Reader With Paperwhite Display & Free 3G.
