iPhone 5 May See Long Term Evolution Next Year
After three weeks of the launch of iPhone 4S, speculations have already started about the next iPhone. The iPhone 4S has sold over four million units in just over three weeks and most part of the success can be attributed to the friendly user aims of Apple. So to make the next iPhone (iPhone 5 or could be named something else) different from the previous one, Apple is expected to roll out LTE (Long Term Evolution) with some hardware updates.

LTE or Long Term Evolution has been brought as 4G by various carriers in US like Verizon and AT&T which gives faster access to the internet than the current 3G technology. Apple could have rolled out the iPhone 4S with LTE and could have marketed the phone claiming having 4G but held back its decision after watching the phones like HTC Thunderbolt, Droid Charge & Droid Bonic failing to impress users with power drain issues. Likely another issue that might have caused Apple to delay putting on LTE into its phone is the hardware cost which is likely to go up to balance the size of LTE and the power drain issue. And that's not all, the iPhone has been designed for worldwide use and adding on LTE would make no sense for users other than in the US.
So we are expecting to see the next iPhone with an A6 processor and a more powerful battery to juice up LTE by 2012 as LTE phone will be seen more often with the phones from the wireless networks like Sprint, AT&T and Verizon and Apple would not like to stay behind in the race.
