Intel’s Ultrabook Features - Reasons That Would Make You Ultra Excited!

Intel is out to replace the “limiting” tablets with a more efficient and better device. In a document titled "Ultra Excited for Ultrabook", Intel has projected Ultrabook as a better replacement for the ARM-based tablets. They stated that PCs still dominate and people prefer them over the recently introduced devices when it comes to  personal computing in the home and office including internet shopping, downloading other content, etc. It is mainly due to the minimal storage space and small screens. Any form of a mobile device has to sacrifice performance or battery life, they #-Link-Snipped-# So Intel has come up with Ultrabook, which they claim, has “best performance, responsiveness, security and battery life and thus fills the gap between desktop/laptop and tablet”. It was first #-Link-Snipped-# in June 2011 at Computex.

New specifications and hence changes in hardware are being incorporated inside these new portable devices. So, they will appear in three phases:

Phase I: started when Intel introduced the latest Ultra-Low Voltage 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ processors. (Already available)
Phase II: to be based on the next generation Intel micro architecture code named Ivy Bridge processors. (Will be available during the first half of 2012)
Phase III: will come in to shape by use of Intel micro architecture code name Haswell.

Phase II will have Faster I/O such as USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt™ technology and will exhibit better power efficiency, smart visual performance, increased responsiveness and enhanced security. The Phase III will have more power efficient processors. IHS (El Segundo, Calif.) predicts that shipments of ultrabooks will rise to 136.5 million in 2015 from less than 1 million in 2011.

Technologies that enhance performance, responsiveness, security, and power for the devices are:

Performance:
Intel® Quick Sync Video (Makes faster work of creating, editing, and sharing videos),  Intel® Wireless Display (To enjoy streaming and 3D content wirelessly), Intel® InTruTM (To get the ultimate, full HD stereo and 3D visual experience), Intel® Insider (To unlock a world of premium, full HD movies on your Ultrabook system) and much more make sure the performance exceeds the expectations.

Responsiveness:
Intel® Rapid Start Technology Returns an Ultrabook device to full operational power within seconds, so a user can jump right back into everything they were doing. This can restore power in an instant. Intel® Smart Response Technology will identify the frequently used files and applications and stores them at a place from where they can be easily accessed. Intel® Smart Connect Technology will update users email, apps, social networks frequently and automatically even when the system is asleep.

Security:
Intel® Anti-Theft Technology helps protect the data from malicious users in case the Ultrabook is stolen. The data can be accessed when it is restored to the rightful owners. Intel® Identity Protection Technology helps protect a user’s identity and assets online by adding a trusted link.

Power:
Ultra-low voltage Intel® processors and AOAC feature Intel® Rapid Start Technology ensures very low power consumption when in standby.
