Recently, IBM has made an intelligent move by announcing its plan to buy #-Link-Snipped-#, an initiative that will power up the cross-platform application development technologies for hand-held devices. However the company did not disclose its Terms of Deal which is expected to close by the end of first quarter. Previously, Worklight had joined hands with IBM and served with world class technologies, some of which include Worklight Studio, an Eclipse based IDE (Integrated Development Environment) and the Worklight Server.

Software modernized by Worklight provide a high-security and scalable gateway between applications, hand-held devices and the Enterprise back-end infrastructure. IBM said that a variety of highly flexible portable applications can be developed using the Worklight environment both for the consumers and the enterprise which targets various industry verticals as well.

The platform includes SDKs (Software development Kit) for all major mobile OS like Android, Blackberry and Windows Platform which provides better compatibility of applications for the devices. For instance, Applications running on Blackberry OS can be easily ported to Android framework without any code translations or platform-based interpreters.

In addition, IBM even announced Endpoint Manager for Mobile devices that can secure data and control the smartphones owned by the company’s employees. This particular tool is based on the technology BigFix which IBM acquired through purchase in 2010. IBM said, customers will have the power to erase sensitive data from their mobile devices in case of a lost or stolen device.

Nevertheless, it has been observed that Worklight has made sizeable investments for increasing the productivity by using HTML5 technology which has hefty power to develop create-once deploy-many applications.
