To get a scholarship you have to work a lot on your profile. The professors in USA don't want pedantic students who are ostentatious. They want a fully developed student who has worked on the field, who has a keen interest in learning the subject and who can be useful as their assistant. The US college have a special committee that presides over the profile selection. They look for the academic scores you have gained in the years of your graduation, your abilities, your co-curricular activities and also your interest towards the subject you are applying for. GRE scores are just a matter of qualification. Don't rely on your GRE for getting scholarship.👍
And yes, your project matters a lot.
