Honda's engineers have developed what they call 'HEARBO', which is a short for HEARing roBOt. The robot is equipped with technology which is said to be quite an advancement in the world of Computational Auditory Scene Analysis. In simpler words, the the HEARBO can analyse sound better than the existing systems.

Honda Research Institute at Japan has developed this robot. Traditionally the robots take and interpret voice instructions through a method called beamforming. That is the robot focuses on the origin of the sound waves (for example, a person is speaking) and then applies noise cancellation techniques to make sense out of the waves through automated speech recognition. The HEARBO advances this method a step further. Say three people are talking at a time and instructing the robot - can the robot figure it out? HEARBO uses a new system called HARK through three parameters viz.  localization, separation, and recognition. HARK is designed to extract original sounds from a mixture and even identify the direction from which they're coming from. That means, if your TV is on and your kids are playing in the room, HEARBO will still be able to identify a door bell and if programmed, it can go and open the door.
