Line balancing is a technique employed to allow continuous flow in an assembly line. Basically, in an assembly line there exists a workstation or two that are the slowest. They form bottlenecks in the process. What is done in line balancing is that additional workstations are added parallel to the bottleneck workstation (performing the same task) in order to relieve the work load and to improve overall workflow. A time study can be used to identify the slowest workstations.
