Control circuits always have a micro-controller (also called uC or PLC) which trigger an output based on some input and some logic. Input is usually some sensor (light, temp., humidity etc.) and output is some switch (relays, transistor) driving a load( motor, bulb etc.). Coupling the uC with USB, serial or wifi interfaces allows one to operate the load remotely. -
