World's Smallest Microphone Built By Iranian Scholar From Noshirvani University

Building the extreme superlatives like the biggest, the tallest or the smallest invokes interest of thousands of engineers around the globe. Bahram Azizollah Ganji, a Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Noshirvani University of Technology, Babol likes to work on Design and fabrication of MEMS and Nano Electronics. He is aiming to make a world record of building the smallest microphone ever!

He has built a capacitor microphone that is so tiny that it is almost invisible to the naked eye. It is 0.5 X 0.5 mm big. Deaf people could use it and no one would know that they are wearing it. What's great, he claims that the microphone has high sensitivity and low power consumption. If this device enters the mainstream market at a really low cost, it can be used for a variety of purposes. For instance, in medical purposes they can use this tiny device to receive the exact sound of heart for diagnosis of cardiac problems. It can be fitted on top of a pen or installed on the goggles and used for information collection or in defense systems. It can be used in marine surveillance systems to measure the intensity of ultrasound waves and help in fishing. The possibilites are endless. We will keep a check on the future applications of this device.
