TRAI SMS Limit Is 200 SMS Per Day Per SIM - Justified?

TRAI aka Telecom Regulatory Authority of India seems to have listened to the voice of customer. Our #-Link-Snipped-# of TRAI 100 SMS/Day limit applicable from September 27 got 100% customers saying that the limit was not justified. With the latest government circular, this limit has been raised to 200 SMS/Day per SIM. Earlier, TRAI decided to stop the troublemaking tele-marketers by clipping the amount of SMS a user can send every day through a single SIM. While this move did cap the unwanted SMSes from telemarketing companies; it upset lot of consumers - especially the student community. TRAI issued a statement saying that the authority received representations from several companies to raise the 100 text messages a day limit. The authority finally decided to up the limit to 200 messages a day. The new rule will be effective from today, that is November 01, 2011.

TRAI has also imposed a termination fee of Rs. 0.05 per commercial SMS originating from telemarketer's network. The access providers will collect the charges from the registered telemarketing agency. We do not know whether this move is effective or not. However, we'd like to know from our readers whether they think 200 sms/day is 'alright'? Complete press release is as follows -

TRAI extends the 100 SMS per day per SIM limit to 200 SMS per day per SIM. 

New Delhi, 1st November, 2011:  All the provisions of  “The Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations, 2010” issued have come into force from 27th September 2011.  

2. The Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations  provide a restriction that no Access Provider shall permit sending of more than one hundred SMS per day per SIM except telemarketer or transactional message sending entity. The Authority has received representations from some of the service providers and consumers to increase the limit of 100 SMS per day per SIM. The Authority has considered these representations and decided to increase the limit of one hundred SMS per day per SIM to two hundred SMS per day per SIM.
