Zero XU Motorcycle - The Bike With Removable Battery

Now-a-days innovations are being carried out in automobile sector. Innovations for reducing all kinds of pollutions are welcomed. Various 4 wheeler automobile brands are manufacturing EVs and hybrids. It will surely help in conserving the nature and its resources. People tried to make such innovations in two wheelers also. And the output came as Electric Powered Bikes.

The electric bikes are getting popular these days because of their catchy features and comparatively low price. Most important thing about these bikes is that they are eco-friendly. These bikes use rechargeable batteries which are fitted in the body of the vehicle. Also the chasis (the basic frame of the vehicle on which various accessories are mounted) is made up of Aluminium which is lighter metal which ultimately makes the vehicle lightweight.

Besides these advantages the major drawback in using these bikes is charging the battery. One has to find an accessible spot to plug in the charger. The electric bikes come with batteries tightly protected in the frame. These batteries are not removable so you have to find a secured place where you can park the bike and charge the battery. But I bet it is pretty hard to find such a favourable place except at your home. At home also, you cannot get the bike inside the home to charge the battery. So the consumers have to think much before purchasing an Electric Bike.

[IMG]To overcome this difficulty a Californian company Zero Motorcycles is coming up with its new revolutionary “ZERO XU” in 2011. The ZERO in the name of company suggests zero emission. This company features two more models Zero Street(S) and Zero Dual Sport (DS) this year. But out of these (and most probably only one in the world), ZERO XU comes with removable battery. The battery can be detached from the frame of bike for charging. This enables the consumers to take only the battery to the plug in point instead of the whole bike.

[IMG]Now you may say that the battery is the most expensive part of any electric motorcycle. But this is where they cut out the expenses. Instead of using a 4.4 kWh battery (as that in Zero S & DS), they used a 2 kWh lithium-ion power pack in Zero XU. It requires maximum 2 hours to completely charge the battery. The S & DS are capable of achieving freeway speeds but XU has a much more inner-urban focus with the top speed of 51 mph (82 km/h) and maximum range of 30 miles (48 km). So this becomes an efficient vehicle for short distance commuters.

Thus these electric powered vehicles can help us to keep the environment clean and to get rid of the noisy automobile engines.
