Xiaomi launches Mi Mix 2S with AI powered dual cameras, Snapdragon 845 and a 5.99" bezel-less screen
The new powerhouse from Xiaomi, the MI Mix 2s was launched today in China, offering a host of top-line features including the latest Snapdragon 845 chipset, up to 8 GB of RAM, up to 256 GB of onboard storage, AI-powered dual 12MP rear cameras with 4-axis optical image stabilization, a beautifully crafted ceramic body and much more. However, it is not the high-end specs which makes this phone unique. It is the design and the almost bezel-less display which makes this gadget so desirable. The Mi Mix 2s offers an 18:9, 5.99-inch full HD+ display (2160 X 1080) which is equivalent to 403 PPI. An AI-based face unlocking feature is also present.
The Mi Mix 2S is the first smartphone in China to incorporate the latest SoC from Qualcomm, the #-Link-Snipped-#. The chipset has an octa-core CPU which clocks at up to 2.8GHz, a new LTE modem, and a powerful Adreno 630 graphics processor clocked at a max of 710MHz which is 30% faster than its predecessors, according to Qualcomm. The Snapdragon 845 chipset from Qualcomm also improves on various other areas such as the power efficiency, Bluetooth, image processing etc. The Mi Mix 2S comes with a non-removable 3400 mAh battery.
To allow heavy multitasking, Xiaomi has coupled the processor with 8GB RAM in the top model while the cheaper ones get an ample 6GB RAM. This kind of hardware has led the device to score a mind-blowing 2,77,178 on the popular Antutu benchmark. This kind of score gives the impression of a lightning-fast performance, but it must be kept in mind that benchmark scores do not always reflect the true performance in real-life scenarios. The Mix 2S supports fast wireless charging and Qualcomm fast charging 3.0. It comes with a USB type C interface for charging and connection to PC.
Xiaomi has given extra attention to the camera department of the phone to appease photography enthusiasts. The front camera is a 5MP shooter with HDR, AI-powered real-time bokeh effect and supports 1080p video calls. The rear camera setup comprises two 12 megapixel shooters. One camera has a f/1.8 aperture, wide angle lens and 4-axis optical image stabilization(OIS) while the other one has a f/2.4 aperture with a telephoto and portrait lens. It supports up to 4K video recording @ 30fps and 240fps slow-motion video recording at 720p and 1080p resolutions.
A rounded fingerprint sensor is present at the back of the Mix 2S like its predecessor. A wide array of sensors are present in the device like Ultrasonic distance sensor, gyro sensor, hall sensor, acceleration sensor, compass, ambient light sensor, barometer. The smartphone supports all major frequency bands across the globe which means it can be used in most of the countries. It is a dual SIM phone supporting two nano SIM cards. The Mi Mix 2S will be sold in China via flash sales, the first one being on April 3. The prices start from RMB 3299 (approx. Rs 34,200) for the 6GB + 64GB variant. The mid-variant with 6GB + 128GB will cost at RMB 3,599 (approx. Rs 37,300) and the top model 8GB + 256GB will be available for RMB 3999 (approx. Rs 41,400).
