Why do we add thinner and hardener to paint?

Why we add the thinner and hardener to paint,is it decrease the paint viscosity.By adding thinner can we decrease the viscosity of the paint

    Thinner does exactly that to make it spread better. Hardener is needed only for two component systems where the hardener cures the film.
