WHAT ARE BENEFITS OF USE OF RICE HUSK ASH IN CONCRETE ?Posted in: #Civil & Structural
Rice husk ash is used in concrete construction as an alternative of cement .The rice husk itself has a very rough surface which is abrasive in nature. The incorporation of rice husk ash in concrete convert it into an eco-friendly supplementary cementitious material. The rice husk ash is a green supplementary material that has applications in small to large scale. It can be used for waterproofing. It is also used as the admixture to make the concrete resistant against chemical penetration.
Rice husk is an abundantly available agricultural waste material that contains a large amount of siliceous ash. Burning rice husk in air produces RHA, which is 85–98% silica. The high silica content makes it a good supplementary cementitious material or pozzolanic admixture.
RHA is essentially active silica with a large specific surface area and fine particle size. Many tooth powder formulations use it because of this. There have been a large number of studies on its use in soil stabilisation and in concrete.
