MBA Level programme's at IIMA
Post Graduate Programme in Management
The Post-Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) is among the oldest, largest and most prestigious of the Institute's teaching programmes. Ranked the best programme in the continent, and among the best in the Asia-Pacific Region, the programme emphasizes innovative problem solving, shared perspectives, applied management philosophy, and group work.
Post Graduate Programme in Agri-Business Management
The Post Graduate Programme in Agri-Business Management (PGP-ABM), equivalent to MBA, is a unique programme specially designed to enhance the quality of management in the food and agribusiness sector, and help this sector meet the challenges of the evolving market place. Agriculture accounts for about 25 per cent of India's gross domestic product (GDP) and for over 60 per cent of employment. The growth of this sector, therefore, is crucial to the development of Indian economy.
PGPX: One Year Post Graduate Programme in Management for Executives
The one year Post Graduate Programme in Management for Executives (PGPX) is aimed at experienced executives who wish to acquire formal training in management. It has a general management focus, with an emphasis on managing across borders and cultures. It has an international immersion component besides teaching content drawn from many countries. The goal is to prepare participants to be ready to take leadership positions in the firms that they join.
Admissions
Every year, IIMA selects about 250 students from among the over 100,000 candidates who apply to the PGP. The admission process consists of the nationally administered Common Admission Test (CAT), and subsequent rounds of personal interviews and group discussions. The students are selected on the basis of their CAT scores, past academic performance and performance in the interviews and group discussion. Selected students have scholastic achievements in disciplines such as arts, commerce, science and professional streams such as engineering, technology and medicine. Many of them also have achievements in extra-curricular and organisational activities. Some of the qualities that characterise past students are high levels of initiative and energy, capacity for hard work, strong task orientation, willingness to learn, and a temperament suitable for teamwork. The PGP classes have had a mix of fresh graduates and persons with work experience.
Selection Procedure
The selection for the post-graduate programme is done through a two-stage process. In the first stage, candidates to be called for group discussion and personal interview are short-listed from among those who have applied to IIMAâs post-graduate programme. While short-listing the candidates for group discussion and personal interview, candidates belonging to categories for which seats are reserved, are treated differently. The criteria used for short-listing would be disclosed on the IIMA web-site. along with the list of short-listed candidates . Please note that the cut off for short listing SC/ST/PWD candidates for group discussion and personal interview would not be less than 17% score in each of the three sections of CAT and no less than 25% score in aggregate. For other categories, it would be no less than 25% in each of the three sections and no less than 33% in aggregate. The actual cut-offs used for short-listing, however, may be higher than the above mentioned percentage scores and would depend upon the performance of candidates in CAT.
In the second stage, candidates to be admitted to the post-graduate programmes are selected from among those who have attended the group discussion and personal interviews. In preparing this admission list, inputs such as performance in group discussion and personal interview, the CAT score, academic background and achievements, extra-curricular activities, and post-degree work experience, are taken into consideration.
Eligibility Criteria
Domestic candidates
The minimum eligibility criterion for admission to PGP is: the candidate must hold a Bachelorâs Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC)/ Scheduled Tribe (ST) or Persons with Disability (PWD) category], of any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or #-Link-Snipped-# in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India. The Bachelorâs Degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent. The basis of computing the percentage obtained by the candidate in the bachelorâs degree would be based on the practice followed by the university/ institution from where the candidate has obtained the degree. In case of the candidates being awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the equivalence would be based on the equivalence certified by the university/ institution from where they have obtained bachelor's degree. In case the university/ institution does not have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by the IIMs by dividing obtained CGPA with the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the resultant with 100.
Candidates appearing for the final bachelor's degree / equivalent qualification examination can also apply. Such candidates must produce a certificate from the Principal/Head of the Department/Registrar/Director of the university/ institution certifying that the candidate has obtained 50% marks or equivalent (45% in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD category) based on latest available grades/marks. Such candidates, if selected, will be allowed to join the programme provisionally only if they submit a certificate latest by a specified date published on IIMA website from the Principal/Registrar of their college/institute (issued on or before the date published on IIMA website) stating that they have completed all the requirements (the results may, however, be awaited) for obtaining #-Link-Snipped-#degree/ equivalent qualification on the date of issue of the certificate. Their admission will be confirmed only when they submit the mark sheet and a certificate of having passed the bachelor's degree / equivalent qualification referred to in the certificate issued by the Principal/Registrar with at least 50% marks (45% in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD category). The deadline for submission of the mark sheet and the certificate is published on the IIMA website. Non-fulfillment of this condition will automatically result in the cancellation of the provisional admission. IIMs would not allow any candidate to join their programme in case the candidate is unable to complete all the requirements for a bachelor degree on or before the date published on the IIMA website. The IIMs would also not offer admission to any candidate after the date published on IIMA website.
Reservations
As per Government of India requirement 15% and 7½% seats are reserved for SC and ST candidates, respectively. In addition, the Government of India has proposed to reserve seats for candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC) starting from academic year 2007-08. The details of the reservation for candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC) would be notified by the IIMs on their web-sites and through an advertisement in national newspapers once the propose#-Link-Snipped-#for this purpose is passed by the Parliament and is officially communicated/ notified. Candidates belonging to OBC category are advised to enclose a photocopy of the certificate that they belong to OBC category at the time of submission of CAT application form. They also need to mark carefully the category to which they belong while filling up the application form.
3% seats are reserved for Persons with Disability (PWD). The three categories of disability are: a) low-vision/blindness, b) hearing impairment, and c) locomotor disability/cerebral palsy.
The candidates belonging to categories for which seats are reserved need to note and read carefully the eligibility requirements before applying. It should be noted that while it is endeavour of IIMs that the candidates belonging to OBC/SC/ST/PWD categories join the program in proportions mandated by the law, they have to meet the eligibility criteria and a certain minimum level of performance in CAT. The candidates should read carefully the description of admission process in the CAT bulletin.
Fees and Expenses
Annual expenses on tuition, library, #-Link-Snipped-# room, board, teaching material, and other fees (excluding personal expenses on travel, clothes and laundry) are about Rs. 2,00,000 at present for domestic candidates.
Financial Aid
It is the endeavour of the Institute that no student be denied opportunity to pursue the post-graduate programmes in Management at IIMA for want of adequate financial resources. Keeping this objective in view, IIMA has instituted a need-based scholarship scheme from its own resources to help its economically weak PGP/ PGP-ABM students. Under this scheme, every year many students are provided with scholarships. The scholarship amounts are fixed on the basis of the annual gross family income, parental asset ownership, number of dependants etc. Applications for these scholarships will be made available in July.
The Government of India Merit-cum-Means scholarships of Rs. 2,200 a year are available to a maximum of 25 per cent of the students, provided that these students meet the merit and means criteria. Several industry-sponsored merit scholarships are awarded at the end of each academic year. In addition, a few industry-sponsored need-based scholarships for two years are available to needy students. Many commercial banks and financial institutions provide educational loans to students. For details, candidates may contact branch offices of such banks.
