The concept car owes its existence from the daily commuting pattern of Germans. As per an estimate from German Bureau of Statistics, around three quarters (~74%) of people travel between Berlin and Munich travel less than 16 miles a day. Moreover a majority of the commuters travel alone. Hence it should get a reasonable thinking if we can improve this pattern. The solution was this one seat car called NILS or VW Electric Roadster.

The Electric Roadster by Volkswagen is an electric vehicle which aims at reducing carbon footprint. The car is really small and looks like a model on ramp. To be precise it has a 10 foot long Aluminum framed body which makes it light. The other light weight materials used in constructing this tiny marvel like polycarbonates and others make it weigh just 1014 pounds. Although it is not a racer, it is swift. The car only churns out 30 hp power. The car has a top speed of 80 miles per hour and can accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour in 11 seconds.

In achieving all this, the vehicle only requires a couple of hours of charging from a 230V source. The car features a 5.3 KWh battery pack to serve the purpose. The design and specification might have made you wonder that this one can take a lead in electric car market. Yes, you are right. The automobile has every factor of doing that.
