Triometric Powers Performance and Expansion of Oracle HFM at Tomkins Plc

Global engineering and manufacturing group optimises Oracle Hyperion Financial Management across 30 countries with application performance monitoring solution from Triometric

Egham, Surrey – 20th April 2010 - Triometric today announced that global engineering and manufacturing group, Tomkins plc has successfully deployed its application testing and monitoring solution to optimise the performance of the Company’s Oracle Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) for 350 users across 30 countries.

The backbone of its group wide internal management reporting, as well as external reporting and forecasting, Oracle HFM 9.3.1 is critical to Tomkins, which is listed on both the London and New York stock exchanges.

Nick Wilding, Manager of Systems Accounts at Tomkins plc explained, “Failure of our worldwide financial reporting is not an option. We’ve had HFM at Tomkins since 2004, and it seemed the more we scaled the application, the slower it got; we needed granular performance visibility to understand why,” he continued. “We looked at a variety of performance management tools, but nothing could match Triometric for its ability to monitor down to user level and be so tightly integrated with HFM for which it has an impressive track record.”

Matthew Goulden, Managing Director at Triometric added, “Until now, Tomkins has been unable to fully understand user behaviour or explain slow performance. Using our passive packet capture technology, the Company can now interpret processes; particularly around usage peaks and troughs associated with reporting deadlines,” he continued. “It revealed a high incidence of ‘forced calculates’ being performed which is highly system intensive, and that specific users are consistently doing things they’re not meant to.”

Armed with this information, Tomkins has been able to greatly enhance the performance of Oracle HFM by educating users and assessing the genuine case for hardware investment. Uniquely, Triometric also monitors the Citrix network at Tomkins which has empowered Wilding’s team to distinguish between user and application issues versus local internet speed constraints. The Company experiences regular helpdesk calls from countries such as China and Dubai, and the performance monitoring application enables Tomkins to know whether the problem should be owned by the corporate finance/IT function, or by local engineers.

Going forward, Tomkins will run Triometric’s performance management software in a virtual environment, and migrate to Oracle’s Fusion platform.
