Ha! Finally they'll learn!

Milind Deora, the Minister of State for Communications and IT gave a written reply regarding the samematter, stating that from the time the Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations, 2010 came into effect on September 27, 2011, the telecom service providers have imposed a penalty on registered telemarketers for 18 cases and lodged a total fine of Rs.6.05 lakh to TRAI up to November 30, 2011. As yet, the TRAI has obtained Rs. 3.30 lakh from Tata Teleservices, Vodafone has put Rs. 2 lakh and Loop Telecom Rs. 75,000.

The TRAI has posted 3,409 notices to subscribers who have not filed as telemarketers but were were still involved in the telemarketing activities. Out of these, 410 similar connections have been deactivated. Calling attention on the number of undesirable commercial calls/SMS has decreased to a great extent from the time the new regulations came into effect. What Mr. Deora later commented was that the complaints filed after this regulation came into effect has reduced to 10% of what they received earlier. Out of these complaints, a majority were due to undesirable SMS. Also, it was brought to attention that the maximum undesirable commercial communications originated from unregistered telemarketers.
