This Robot Takes Care Of 30,000 Mice, Like A Gentleman!

You might be unaware of a management domain - called laboratory animal management. But this robot seems to have a Ph.D in it. The robot developed by Nikkoyo Technos and Yaskawa Electric of Japan specialised in taking care of about 30,000 mice. The robot solves the problem of humans getting infected by the diseases in lab animals By employing robots in place of humans to take care of the mice, this problem is eliminated.

The robot itself is a 6-axis, multi-jointed robot designed to mimic human actions and motions. There are several functions it can perform - from changing cage sheets, topping up the food for animals, changing water etc. The robot picks up various tools required for each of the job in turn. The current version of the robot isn't capable of determining how much food is remaining; but the engineers promise that the next version will have that capability.

The robot handles the animals gently and replaces humans in about 80% of the hard, dirty and dangerous tasks. Engineers say that the robot can also coordinate with other robots that have been designed to perform specific tasks, such as carrying the cages. The animals are monitored by cameras 24x7.

Biggest problem in raising animals is that diseases can spread from people to the animals

I hate robots as it takes away the freedom of man but I appreciate the use of robotics in these area where man is prone to diseases.robotics can be appreciated in the places where Humans were prone to damage, disease, etc.

Humans can not maintain so many peskies so easily

But this seems really a great marvel to me Just think how many different motion of rats has been sensed by sensors any idea on the tech front of the bot

Only the arm is shown in video with no info on how it senses the things ..
Demo bot must hav all the details about the workspace fed into it ..

But still can it be governed by a time based controller

Yes, immune systems can be different. A human disease or affliction can have a greater affect on animals. Plus, they want to ensure the lab animals are quarantined, or else it will affect their research.
