After unveiling the Xperia XA1 and Xperia XA1 Ultra at the MWC 2017 targeting the mid-range smartphone market, Sony has finally launched the Sony Xperia XA1 in India at Rs 19,990. The key highlight of the handset is its 23-megapixel rear camera which Sony claims, will deliver best-in-class imaging experience.

The Sony Xperia XA1 features a 5-inch HD (1280x720 pixels) edge-to-edge display with Sony's Image Enhance Technology and Corning Gorilla glass protection. It measures 145 x 67 x 8 mm and weighs 143 grams with aluminum sides and diamond-cut like finish at the top and bottom.

Under the hood, the Sony Xperia XA1 gets the MediaTek Helio P20 Octa Core 64 bit SoC (Quad core 2.3GHz + Quad core 1.6GHz) paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage which can be further expanded by up to 256GB via the dedicated microSD card slot.

Sony has packed in an excellent camera setup for the Sony Xperia XA1. There is a 23-megapixel snapper at the back with 1/2.3” Exmor RS mobile image sensor and 24mm wide-angle F2.0 lens. There are features like Hybrid Autofocus, Quick Launch & Capture, Low-light photo capturing at ISO6400, Low-light video at ISO 3200, 5x Clear Image Zoom and SteadyShot.
For selfie enthusiasts, the Sony Xperia XA1 is equipped with an 8-megapixel shooter with 1/4" Exmor R mobile image sensor and 23mm wide-angle F2.0 lens alongside features like the Low-light photo shooting at up to ISO 3200, Low-light video at ISO 3200 and Sony's SteadyShot.

On the connectivity front, the Sony Xperia XA1 is equipped with dual-SIM card slots supporting 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, A-GNSS (GPS + GLONASS), NFC and USB Type-C port. The entire package is powered by a 2300mAh battery with support for Qnovo Adaptive Charging and Sony’s STAMINA mode. The Sony Xperia XA1 runs Google's Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box.

The Sony Xperia XA1 undoubtedly houses a powerful camera but it lacks in almost all other departments and will face tough competition from its Chinese counterparts namely the Lenovo Z2 Plus, ZTE Nubia Z11 Mini S and the LeEco Max 2
