Seagate Seven Is The World’s Thinnest Portable Hard Drive; Features USB 3.0 Port

Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is a platform for major companies to launch their products. American Data Storage Company Seagate has confirmed that they will launch a new external hard drive named Seagate Seven at CES 2015.The name of the HDD is not random. The drive is going to be world’s thinnest HDD with the width of only 7 mm. Even most of standard internal hard drives have a width of atleast 9.5 mm. The reduced thickness will definitely be selling point for Seagate.

The storage space of the device right now is a mere 500 GB, but if an organized and systematic digital life is on the top of your New Year’s resolution then Seagate Seven is surely a good place to start. The amazing thing is that in the 7mm thickness, Seagate has been able to make room for a built-in 3.0 USB port. Of course, it has only a single port for both data and power connections. The device is compatible to work with both Windows and Mac operating systems and also supports USB 2.0.

Achieving the current thickness is a difficult accomplishment for Seagate. In order to do so, the drive carries with it a slender interior drive which is only 5mm thick and is currently the slimmest portable drive in the market. Seagate said that despite the thin size, thanks to its steel enclosure, the drive is reasonably rugged and the drive’s case is strong enough to endure drops by accident, shocks and even being run over by a small car.

The best part, besides the thickness, is that the device is pretty affordable. Despite boasting of being the slimmest drive, it will cost only 100 dollars in USA. It will begin its sale from end of January and has a three year warranty. The information regarding the pricing and availability for other countries will be announced soon.
