Samsung's Transparent Smart Window, Tablet Goes Window Size!

Still fantasized by the giant screen you saw in Minority Report? Well, Samsung has made possible to put that screen in your home. One of the most amazing product and CES-2012 innovation award winner Samsung Smart Window is a transparent 22-inch LCD display that can do anything that a tablet can do.

This 22-inch LCD screen has a resolution 1680*1080 pixels and 500:1 contrast ratio. The screen is around 20-22 percent more transparent than old LCDs. You can literally look through the screen. It is a single side mirror, so you don’t need to worry about your privacy! Imagine yourself standing in your room, looking at the weather outside and getting forecast for next few hours, both together! Samsung also showed a series of apps for the product, including digital blinds. You can have the feeling of actual window through the digital blind app. You can control the amount of light coming in by opening/closing the blinds. You can access your twitter account and can even work, they have an app for Microsoft Office. Wondering what happens to transparent screen in night? For that, it has two edge-lightning sources, which make the screen visible in case of dark outside. You can also watch TV on this screen. Enough with the writing, here is the demo video:

The Transparent Screen technology was first introduced by Samsung in March 2011, but it didn’t get much success. It’s not the first transparent TV as Haier also launched a transparent OLED TV, but Samsung Smart Window is more than just a TV. Its a window sized tablet! Unfortunately, there is no information about price and shipping details, but Samsung claims that they will start mass production by the end of 2012.
