Samsung Gear S3 : Codename "Soils", Runs Tizen

Samsung Gear S2 successor, most likely to be called "Samsung Gear S3" is in the works at Samsung's design and engineering labs. The nice folks at Sammobile got some interesting information about the upcoming smartwatch from South Korean electronics giant. The next in the Gear series is codenamed 'Soils' (which stands for the 'Sun') and much against the speculation, it favours Tizen operating system over Google's Android Wear. We believe Samsung will unveil the new Gear towards the end of this year.

While no concrete information is available as of writing this article - there are few no-brainer guesses: Samsung will continue with the circular dial and is likely to make it a bit bigger in size compared to the existing Gear S2. If Samsung leadership feels a little adventurous, they might even launch a rectangular version of the Gear. However not many people would like Apple like Watch design that makes you think you've a mini-phone stuck on wrist.

It's also evident that Samsung's betting really big on their own Tizen OS over platforms from their rivals. One of the main drawbacks of Tizen is it's very limited apps ecosystem as compared to Google's Android Wear. Samsung indeed is working on attracting developers and only time will tell if this strategy turns out to be successful.

The new Samsung Gear S3 is likely to sport a new user interface to suit the larger display. Existing users of Gear S2 will agree that typing on the tiny display ain't very intuitive and a larger display can address the problem to some extent. Rotating bezel is definitely a huge win for Samsung and we expect it to be continued in the Gear S3.

Sammobile expects that the new Gear will have a bigger and better battery. We're curious to know what do our fellow engineers expect from the next Gear. Shout out below.
