Razer's Fiona Gaming Tablet At CES; With Analog Controls? Yes!

Nintendo, PlayStation and XBOX have long been associated with the definition of gaming, but one would expect things to change with the advent of smartphones and tablets. True as it is, Angry Birds and Cut The Rope have attracted a huge amount of popularity, but beneath that they are just there for casual gaming.

With the amount of horsepower portable devices pack today, putting hardcore games shouldn't be a problem afterall. The only catch here being, nobody likes the touch controls when it comes to gaming. Being a gamer myself, I relate to the issue, because it is the controller which decides your survival rate in the game world . Not trying to innovate the touch control further, Razer seems to have understood the core of the problem and has unveiled its new tablet concept with two physical controllers, as well as a multitouch display.

Powered by Intel's Core i7 CPU, the tablet is called 'Project Fiona' and is projected to play the most popular PC games of today with "an intuitive control setup for a phenomenal on-the-go gaming experience." With Intel backing Razer, Project Fiona is more likely to fully function like a PC. "While multi-touch screens have become the de facto user interface for tablets, they are not the right interface for serious PC gaming," said Min-Liang Tan, CEO, Razer. The tablet is exclusively aimed at hardcore gamers so that they can enjoy their games on the go without limiting them to touch interface for controls.

The user interface is designed such as to facilitate gaming as well as provide game developers a chance to develop next-gen games on a highly-intuitive platform. No word yet on the price or availability but Razer confirmed that developer units will be made available soon.
