    It seems this one has no takers. Well, it wasn't a puzzle πŸ˜‰ . Here's the most logical answer 😁

    We have "5 = 4".
    Subtract 3 from both sides: 2 = 1.
    Russell and the Pope are are two people.

    neha
    Puzzle alwaz seems easy when u have the solution with uπŸ˜‰

    Looking for some more!!!!
    Oh really? πŸ˜‰

    Try this - ( should be easy )

    -6 = -6
    9-15 = 4-10

    adding 25/4 to both sides:
    9-15+(25/4) = 4-10+(25/4 )

    Changing the order
    9+(25/4)-15 = 4+(25/4)-10

    (this is just like : a square + b square - two a b = (a-b)square.)

    Here a = 3, b=5/2 for L.H.S and a =2, b=5/2 for R.H.S.

    So it can be expressed as follows:

    (3-5/2)(3-5/2) = (2-5/2)(2-5/2)

    Taking positive square root on both sides:

    3 - 5/2 = 2 - 5/2

    3 = 2 πŸ˜’ 😁

    What's wrong with the above ?

    here is my explanation

    This is a typical case of optical illusion. It is very simple. Take the 'tan' of the angle at the top using the upper block. I mean, in first figure - take the tan of top angle using the top green triangle & in the second, the top red triangle.

    The value is different in each case. This explains that the second triangle is not a perfect triangle.

    [IMG] I think I got it right.

    well a second possibility cud be as follows:
    if we look at the picture... we shall notice the base of the triangle is longer w.r.t the perpendicular. this is because (in the first picture) the triangle in red has a long base to add up with the base of the initial triangle....
    now if we re-arrange the blocks... we have placed this longer base red triangle on the top while a triangle with a smaller base (the green one) is placed at the bottom... now to maintain the same base as b4 the two " L" blocks have to be placed at a block's gap.... more over they bein initially designed to interlink to form a vertical block have now been used vertically... so they go out of order...

    i hope i was fair enough to explain my point... do let me know in case of ne doubts...

    I am posting the answer!

    Turn on any switch and keep it 'ON' for some time. Switch it off. Now turn on another switch and rush to the floor above.

    1. The bulb which is glowing corresponds to the switch which is presently 'ON'.
    2. Touch the other two bulbs: The one which is warm(/hot) corresponds to the switch which was turned on initially.
    3. The remaining bulb corresponds to the third (remaining) switch.

    The four people in this puzzle all competed in different classes of dog agility at a recent competition. The competitions all required the dogs to run over jumps, through tunnels and various other obstacles in as quicker time as possible. Each had a different result - one came first, one third, one fourth and one ninth. All four dogs were each of a different breed.

    Can you work out who handled which dog, at what level each competed, the place each finished in and the breed of each dog?

    1. If Tiff finished first then Terry finished fourth.
    2. If Terry finished fourth then Jago is a collie otherwise Jago is not a collie.
    3. If Jane competed in the Senior class then she finished third.
    4. If Jane competed in Novice then she finished fourth.
    5. The dog that finished ninth was an alsatian. This was either Jago, in which case Jago competed in the Elementary class, or this was Kelly, in which case Terry handled Kelly.
    6. Mark won Starters.
    7. If Mark's dog is called Patti then Patti is a labrador otherwise Patti is a collie.
    8. Ruth's dog is called Jago.
    9. If Jago finished fourth then she competed in the Novice class otherwise she competed in the Senior class.
    10. If Patti finished first then Terry's dog is an alsatian otherwise Terry's dog is a collie.
    11. If Jane's dog is a doberman then Jane finished fourth otherwise Jane finished third.

    Handler's Names: Jane, Mark, Ruth and Terry
    Dog's Names: Tiff, Patti, Jago and Kelly
    Breed: Alsatian, Collie, Labrador and Doberman
    Level: Starters, Elementary, Novice or Senior

    Imagine a prisoner in a prison. He is sentenced to death and has been told that he will be killed on one day of the following week. He has been assured that the day will be a surprise to him, so he will not be anticipating the hangman on a particular day, thus keeping his stress levels in check.

    The prisoner starts to think to himself, if I am still alive on Thursday, then clearly I shall be hanged on Friday, this would mean that I then know the day of my death, therefore I cannot be hanged on Friday. Now then, if I am still alive on Wednesday, then clearly I shall be hanged on Thursday, since I have already ruled out Friday. The prisoner works back with this logic, finally concluding that he cannot after all be hanged, without already knowing which day it was.
    Casually, resting on his laurels, sitting in his prison cell on Tuesday, the warden arrives to take him to be hanged, the prisoner was obviously surprised!

    how can he determine the heavier one ?
    Split the balls into two groups of three and one group of two.

    Compare the two groups of three.

    If one side is heavier, then take two balls from that group and compare them--if neither is heavier, then it's the third ball.

    If the groups of three in the first weighing came up equal, then you know that the heavier ball is in the group of two, so you compare the weights of those two.

    you can have standard weight of tablet suppose say 10gm....now take one tablet from 1st machine..two tablet form 2nd machine ...3 tablet from 3rd machine and so on..so u must have 55 tablet and u must have total weight equal to 55*(standard weight of tablet)=550..... but actually u dont have because one machine is defective...so measure the weight of 55 tablet together...u can easily find out the defective machine from the difference |actual weight-550|......

    correct me if i m wrong.....

    The_Big_K
    Oh really? πŸ˜‰

    Try this - ( should be easy )

    -6 = -6
    9-15 = 4-10

    adding 25/4 to both sides:
    9-15+(25/4) = 4-10+(25/4 )

    Changing the order
    9+(25/4)-15 = 4+(25/4)-10

    (this is just like : a square + b square - two a b = (a-b)square.)

    Here a = 3, b=5/2 for L.H.S and a =2, b=5/2 for R.H.S.

    So it can be expressed as follows:

    (3-5/2)(3-5/2) = (2-5/2)(2-5/2)

    Taking positive square root on both sides:

    3 - 5/2 = 2 - 5/2

    Taking mod on both sides. while subtracting the denominators of the numbers should be same! one cannot cancel the numbers!
    /(3*2-5)/2/= /(2*2-5)/2/
    /1/=/1/

    What's the answer?
    well, this is easy.

    You take 1 tablet from machine 1, 2 from machine 2 and so on and 10 from machine 10.
    Weigh the total tablets in the digital weight.
    The total weight should ideally be a multiple of 55. (55 times the weight of one tablet)
    See how much is the difference between the total weight and the nearest multiple of 55.

    That is the defective machine, and if the total weight is greater than the multiple of 55, then the defective machine produces heavier tablets, and vice versa. πŸ˜€

    Let's say machine 5 is defective and it produces lighter tablets. Then, the total weight will be 5 less than 55 times the weight of 1 tablet. πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

    No Deepac... The answer is here:

    Here the constant is the distance.
    Let consider the time is 'T', velocity is 'V' and distance is 'D' for normal journey.
    Equating distances in each case.
    Let time in minutes, length in miles initially.

    Case1: 120 minutes late
    VT = V * 60min + (3/5)*V* ( T + 120min - 60min)
    => VT = 60V + (3/5)VT + (3/5)60V
    => T = 240min = 4hours. Therefore normal journey is 4Hrs.----(1)

    Case2: 40 minutes gained from 120 min late.
    VT = 50miles + (3/5)*V*(T + 120min - 40min - (50mile/V))
    =>using eq.1

    =>240V = 50 + (3/5)320V - (3/5)*50
    =>V = (5/12)miles/minute. Convert this to miles/hour.
    =>v = (5/12)*60 = 25 Miles/Hour.

    =>Required Distance is D= VT = 25*4= 100Miles.

    that makes: $14 + $14 + $3 = $31.

    But initially there was just $30,
    $15 each from A and B.

    Where did this 1 Dollar come from?
    Eiii!!! I said, Waiter's bill is to be negated!!! You didn't add the $5 which you got from the Cashier!!!
    Okay, then coming to your way itself...
    First these two pay 15$ each...
    Cashier returns back 5$, which you didn't mention...
    So, technically, it is not 14 + 14 + 3, but it is 14 + 14 - 5 + 3!!!

    Dude, 14 + 14 - 5 + 3 = 26.
    But the bill is $25. πŸ˜›

    I think you are pretty close to the solution. 😁
  • Reya
    Reya
    The bill is $25. If i divide that,each should contribute $12.5

    The waitor returned $2 back($1 for each)

    The tips of the waitor is $3.

    Each gave $15 to the waitor.So the total amount is $30.

    $25+$3+$2=30.

    "So, the friends paid $14 each for the meal, for a total of $28" is the misleading statement.

    Nope, I think the statement meant total of 14 and 14 is 28.
    I'm getting confused πŸ˜•

    I'll post the solution here

    The Solution . . .

    $25 is sitting with the Cashier, $2 with the friends, and $3 with the Waiter. That adds to the required $30.

    The mistake is expecting that what the men paid and what the Waiter kept to add up to what the men initially gave. In fact, it is the amount that the meal effectively cost them, plus the amount they received back, that should add to $30.

    Both of you are right.

    Try this one now -

    Oh really? πŸ˜‰

    Try this - ( should be easy )

    -6 = -6
    9-15 = 4-10

    adding 25/4 to both sides:
    9-15+(25/4) = 4-10+(25/4 )

    Changing the order
    9+(25/4)-15 = 4+(25/4)-10

    (this is just like : a square + b square - two a b = (a-b)square.)

    Here a = 3, b=5/2 for L.H.S and a =2, b=5/2 for R.H.S.

    So it can be expressed as follows:

    (3-5/2)(3-5/2) = (2-5/2)(2-5/2)

    Taking positive square root on both sides:

    3 - 5/2 = 2 - 5/2

    3 = 2 πŸ˜’ 😁

    What's wrong with the above ?

    -The Big K-
    the positive square root is the culprit
    we have to consider
    (3-5/2)(3-5/2)=-(2-5/2)(2-5/2)

    we have 8,7,6.5,4,3 right..! so 6!*3=2160
    we are left with 8,7,5,4...! so i am using 8,5,4...! so (5!/4)-8=(120/4)-8=22
    so we have oly 7 left..! so 22*7=154
    and we have 2160 and 154 here so 2160-154=2006...! phew it took my whole brain out...!
    so the complete result is..!! (6!*3)-(((5!/4)-8)*7)=2006 i hope im right..!

    here's a simple puzzle to start your brain engines.

    A, B, and C, were all over at D's house when a package was delivered. Each child guessed what was in the box, but only one of them was right. Using their guesses as clues, can you figure out what was in the box?
    A said, "It's a laptop computer."
    B said, "I'll bet it's a pizza."
    C said, "I think a picture or a laptop computer is in the box."
    and "It's a picture, for sure," said D.

    Puzzle The Cryptic Word

    Each pair of letters below (a pair consists of two letters placed vertically in line, for e.g. A and V) consists of one letter contained in a 13-lettered word and one β€œother” letter.

    A B C D E F G H I J L S Y
    V W Q M K U N P O R X T Z

    When the letters in the word are put in the proper order and each corresponding β€œother” letter is put beneath each letter that forms the word, the β€œother” letters will appear in alphabetical order.

    The word has the same number of letters common with each of the following words:
    FACE, QUEST, QUICK, SWITCH and WORLD.

    Note that the letter Q can be present only when U is also present with it.

    I got a solution by guessing answer and coming back. Answer is 4 poles in beginning and 3 poles after removing 1. for 1 km wire. if we have 4 poles, each side will be 1000/4 = 250 meters. if we remove 1 pole, each side will be 1000/3 = 333.333 meters, that is exactly 1+2/6 of 250.
  • Hussanal Faroke
    Hussanal Faroke
    Steps..... x/n-1 = x/n * 8/6 -- (1) [Where x is the length,n is no of poles and 8/6 is data(1+2/3)].
    eq(1)* 1/x => 1/n-1 = 1/n * 8/6
    => 6n = 8n-8
    =>2n = 8
    => n=4. That means total no of poles 4.
