Porsche's 2nd gen Panamera Turbo launched in India, price start at Rs. 1.93 crore

German premium automaker Porsche has unveiled the second-generation of the four-door sedan Panamera Turbo series, comprising of the Panamera Turbo, Panamera Turbo Executive and the Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo in India, with the price starting at Rs 1.93 crore (ex-showroom, Maharashtra). The new Panamera was globally introduced last year at an event in Berlin, Germany while the Turbo Executive featuring a long wheelbase, debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2016. With Panamera being the only sports sedan from the house of Porsche's, the second generation has received the latest MSB (Modularer Standard-Baukasten) architecture, that uses aluminium resulting in a 70kg weight loss over its predecessor along with updated engines, transmission, re-designed interior and drive systems.

All the three variants of the Panamera Turbo series are powered by a new, compact and lighter 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 engine that pumps out 550 hp and delivers 770Nm of torque with a compression ratio of 10.1:1. The engine is mated to the Porsche’s newly developed PDK (Porsche Doppelkupplung) eight-speed dual-clutch Automatic transmission for sending the power to all the four wheels. It offers four driving modes namely, Normal, Individual, Sport and Sport Plus allowing the driver to choose as per requirement. There is also the Porsche’s adaptive cylinder control which enables the driver to turn off four of the eight pots to conserve fuel and save power when not required. The cars offer a fuel economy of 7.8 kmpl in cities and 13.8 kmpl in extra urban areas.

Despite using the same engine, the three variants have different weight and dimensions resulting in a difference in the claimed 0-100kmph time. The standard Porsche Panamera Turbo does the sprint in 3.7s, Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo completes it in 3.8 seconds while the Panamera Turbo Executive takes 3.9s. All the three models can reach a top speed of 306 kmph. Porsche is also offering a special Sports Chrono Package costing Rs 3.96 lacs extra, that will boost the 0-100kmph time of the cars by bringing it down by up to 0.2 seconds.

Coming to the interior, the second generation has received a major makeover and is loaded with features like the 12.3-inch touchscreen with the Porsche Communication Management system, removable displays at the headrest of the front seats with smartphone-like user interfaces for the rear passengers, Wireless LAN to provide access to media, navigation and vehicle functions. Other features include a panoramic sunroof, four-zone climate control, 3D surround sound systems and electric seats. Assistive features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Change Assist with Turn Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, traffic sign recognition and cornering notification, and ParkAssist with reversing camera and Surround View.

The luxury sports sedans will be available at all Porsche dealerships across the country priced at Rs 1.93 crore for the Porsche Panamera Turbo, Rs 1.97 crore for the Porsche Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo and Rs 2.05 crore for the stretched version Porsche Panamera Turbo Executive.
