Ossia's 'Cota' Paves Way For Wireless Charging Via Bluetooth And Wi-Fi

Imagine you are sitting in a cafe, at a walking distance from home and enjoying your favourite videos or music with your cell phone charging with no wires connected to it. Imagining such a situation seems utopian because every electronic is, in some way or the other, suffering from the 'low battery' flaw which never ceases to end. A Washington based company, Ossia is leaping forward with its project 'Cota' based on wireless technology. Ossia announced its latest breakthrough in the field of remote wireless system which operates on any Wifi or Bluetooth enabled device. The system provides charging even at a distance as long as 30 feet. As said earlier, it makes use of Bluetooth and Wireless broadband service to carry out this operation. One wattage of power reaches to your gadget which travels through the Wifi/ Bluetooth signals, which is roughly one-third of the power provided by you portable USB charger. According to Hatem Zeine, CEO and inventor of Ossia, "From the first concepts, we believed Cota should use existing network antenna components to receive power."

There are two parts of this complete device: One is the charger and other is IC receiver. The IC receivers stuffed into a device sends out omnidirectional signals to direct power from the device. As soon as the charger receives the signals, it sends out power to charge a number of gadgets. Though, it doesn't seem affordable when you think about the device powering a number of electronic products. But Ossia claims that it produces signals no stronger than signals produced while you make a call.

This concept from 'Cota' is quite versatile that it can applied for any kind of chargeable gadget. Ossia has planned to give its licensing to OEMs and ODMs. Do you think it can keep you away from mundane work of charging your gadgets?
