Notion Ink Cain Windows 8.1 Tablet Specs Review | A New 2-in-1 Convertible Arrives

If you have been closely following the growth of Notion Ink tablets, you probably remember that the sales of #-Link-Snipped-# (launched in 2010) never took off and its elder brother the Notion Ink Adam II Specs, Features & Price Revealed that arrived late last year in hopes to revive the brand and shrug off the long hibernation period. Priced decently and packed with features, Notion Ink tried its luck with Android tablet, but now its back with an all new Windows 8.1 tablet named - 'Notion Ink Cain'. To be sold exclusively through the e-commerce portal Snapdeal.com, Notion Ink Cain tablet is powered by a 1.83GHz Intel Z3735 Bay-Trail Quad-Core processor with 2GB DDR3L RAM and Gen7 646MHz GPU. Let us take a look at the tablet's tech specs and features highlighted by the company to find out if it fits the bill when it comes to productivity & entertainment.

The Design & The Display

Weighing just 650 grams, Notion Ink Cain tablet features a monocoque structure and is made of aircraft grade aluminium (for natural heat sink) and plastics. The front side of the tablet is glossy black, while the slate-grey rear comes with more of a brushed finish. On the sides, Cain has patterned texture for a comfortable grip. For what the company calls an "ultra book design", the Notion Ink Cain features a detachable display, a keyboard & a light-weight wireless mouse with nano-receiver. The keyboard folds into a stand at an ergonomic angle and the magnetic dock locks the device in a stable position position. Cain's keyboard has rubber pegs and its cover has a soft matte texture.

The tablet's display is a 10.1-inch IPS LCD one with 10-point capacitive touchscreen. The display resolution of 1280x800 pixels and 16:10 aspect ratio is coupled with Microsoft Windows ClearType for better readability.

With the power of Intel at its core, the Notion Ink Cain enjoys 5-second boot performance and can run multiple apps without a glitch. The Gen7 graphics unit supports DX11, OGL 3.2 and Burst Technology where it can go up to 646MHz whenever games and multimedia demand it. The processor supports up to 2500×1600 resolution displays, which means you can connect large-screen TV or monitors to the tablet through the HDMI port. The Notion Ink Cain sports an internal memory of 32GB, a 2GB DDR3 RAM and thanks to microSD card support, the memory can be expanded up to another 32GB.

The Battery Life & Connectivity Options

For any portable gadget, the battery life plays a crucial factor when making a sane decision. The Notion Ink Cain comes equipped with a 7900 mAh Lithium Polymer battery, and if the company's tech specs are to be believed, it delivers up to 10 hours of surfing and 7 hours of video play time.

Cain supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 to ensure that the users stay connected on the go. The presence of USB 3.0, Micro USB High Speed OTG, Mini HDMI ports a special expandable 3G stick slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack ensures that the basics are covered.

Apart from all the specs mentioned above, we all know that Windows 8.1 brings with a lot of productivity apps such as Office 365, Skype, XBox, OneDrive, Windows Store and Bing. Snapdeal mentions that inside the box, the buyers will find the Notion Ink Cain Tablet PC, a magnetic keyboard & cover, a wireless mouse, Office 365 Personal, 1 year Free 500GB Hard drive (exclusively for early buyers), microUSB OTG cable and a DC Charger.
