Nokia 5 Gets Upgraded With 3GB RAM & Arrives On Flipkart For Rs. 13,499

HMD Global has had a rethink when it comes of one of its current smartphones. HMD Global who currently have the Nokia brand name to themselves have added an extra gigabyte of RAM to the Nokia 5. Apart from improving the mid-range smartphone just a little bit, HMD Global has also changed partners. The Nokia 5 with 3GB of RAM will go on sale on Flipkart from November 7 at midnight. Nokia has not forgotten about offline sales which will begin sometime later this month. As you might be aware HMD Global had a partnership with Amazon to sell its Nokia 6 and Nokia 8 smartphones.

Now increasing the RAM to 3GB from 2GB was an obvious move but it has not been well thought out. When brands like Motorola and Xiaomi create variants of the same smartphone they also tend to add additional internal memory but HMD Global has done nothing of the same kept the internal memory at 16GB but has increased the price of the Nokia 5 to Rs. 13,499. This move was probably brought about owing to the lacklustre sales but will this work? Sadly not, this price increase has pushed the Nokia 5’s price to much closer to the Nokia 6 and most importantly to one of the best smartphones in this range, the Xiaomi Mi A1 which as you might know operates with the same USP, pure Android Nougat and guaranteed updates.

Nokia 5

The Nokia 5 isn’t a bad smartphone, it is a decent performer. HMD Global has used aluminium in its construction and the 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass that makes easier to grip and also protects it from minor scratches. The Nokia 5 has a 5.2inch IPS LCD display with HD resolution and Nokia’s home-grown sunlight visibility filter. The Nokia 5 runs with the help of Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset. It supports memory expansion of up to 128GB with the help of microSD cards. The Nokia 5 takes some decent shots with the help of its 13MP rear camera with dual tone flash and front 8MP camera. The Nokia 5 has an integrated 3000mAh battery. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, microUSB, Bluetooth 4.1 and USB OTG support. The sensor list consists of accelerometer, ambient light sensor, e-compass, fingerprint sensor, hall sensor, gyroscope, proximity sensor and NFC.

Sadly we do not recommend the Nokia 5 because you can have better alternatives at cheaper rates. The Xiaomi Redmi 4A has the same Snapdragon 430 chipset and 32GB of internal memory but skips on the fingerprint sensor for Rs. 6,999. Going up the rate chart you can have the 4GB RAM + 64GB internal memory variant of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 for Rs. 12,999. If you want something from Motorola you can have the Moto G5. HMD Global needs to up their game if they want to sell more smartphones in a demanding market like India where the customer needs value for his/her money.
