Nextbit Unleashes Robin The First 'Cloud Based' Smartphone In India At Rs. 19,999

Yeah, you heard it right! Robin is up for release in India. The much awaited smartphone, which is making wows for its unorthodox specs, is now ready. It will be available at first on flipkart at a price of INR 19,999 and is expected to be available for sale from May 30.

It has a slim and rectangular design and is available in two color variants – mint and midnight. It features a 5.2” 1080p IPS LCD display which makes visibility crystal-clear. It also has a Gorilla Glass which makes it scratch and dust resistant. It has two front facing speakers-one at the top and another at the bottom, which provides an unbelievable sound experience. With its cool look, it surely looks like a ‘smart’ phone.

It has a 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera which allows capturing sharp images. It comes with a dual tone flash and supports features like face-detection, auto-focusing, etc. which comes handy while taking quick photographs. Though it’s not the best, but is pretty good in this category too!

Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 808, the device contains a hexa-core processor coupled with 3 GB of RAM. It has a 32 GB of internal storage and contains no external memory slots. It comes with a free 100 GB cloud storage and thus eliminates the need of any external memory device. Clearly an unorthodox, but a ‘smart’ move!

It comes with a 2680 mAh battery which, though seems less, but provides enough power. It has a TYPE C USB port and a 3.5 mm audio jack. It comes with a sim-slot which is accessible using a pin provided by the manufacturer and hosts some LED displays for flashing notifications.

It has a fingerprint sensor ID combined with a power button and an NFC. It supports Quick charge 2.0 and connectivity features like Bluetooth 4.0 LE, Wi-Fi, etc. It supports both GSM and CDMA connection type and provides options based on the user's preference. It comes with a nice user manual book, a USB A TO C converter cable and obviously the phone. It doesn’t include any charger as with the converter cable any other charger can be used to charge the device.

So what makes Robin different from others? The answer lies in its unorthodox design. Let’s have a quick look into what makes it ‘Smart’ and ‘Special’-
  • It eliminates the home button and combines fingerprint sensor and the power button which allows you to unlock your phone just in a split of a second. No complicated passwords or pattern. It accepts your fingerprint as your password and thus provides on of the strongest security feature.
  • It uses cloud as an external storage element and removes the hassle of buying external memory cards, etc.

  • It archives the files and apps that you hardly use and stores them in the cloud to free up the space. When required, it is again made available using the cloud.
  • It automatically backs up all your data into the cloud when it is connected to a Wi-Fi and is charging. Thus, it saves your time and data both when you are browsing on a mobile network.
  • It comes with an unlocked SIM and provides user to choose the carrier which is right for them.

  • It comes with an unlocked bootloader and open source drivers for developers to do full ROM customization.
Hence, the device not only seems, but is actually a lot different from the other phones of its generation. It is quite ‘smart’ and is meant for both normal users and developers. With the buzz it has created before its release, it will give a tough fight to the orthodox smartphone manufacturers.
