Next Thing Co unveils CHIP - The World's First $9 Computer

Hi CEans,

Just came across this news. A company called Next Thing Co recently launched their Kickstarter campaign for a $9 computer, akin to the famous Raspberry Pi. With that low price, I think it will further accelerate interest in embedded computing development and robotics.

Basic specs below:
CPU: Allwinner A13 (ARM Cortex-A8) 1 GHz processor /w Mali400 GPU
RAM: 512 MB of RAM
Storage: 4 GB
Connectivity: USB, WiFi (b/g/n), Bluetooth 4.0
Video: Composite (VGA & HDMI available via adapters)

Target to be delivered by Dec 2015.

Yeah, it's interesting. I'm wondering what are the practical applications of this? 512 MB of memory seems very limiting.

In the Linux world, 512 MB is a lot ๐Ÿ˜ I suppose it follows closely to Raspi's paradigm. However, it is aimed to be more portable & embedded with its on board wireless capabilities and can also be powered directly by a LiPo battery that can power it for few hours (it has a built in power controller).

I wish I had this during my uni final year project, would have saved a lot of headaches.
