MSI India Launches WindPad Tablet That Runs On Windows 7

As expected the battle of the tablet PCs is heating up in India. Samsung launched their Samsung Galaxy Tab late in December 2010 and Apple #-Link-Snipped-# of the much awaited iPad in India. Both the big competitors have priced their tablets at a starting price of around Rs. 27,000. Now MSI India is entering with its own Win7 powered Tablet and it's called "WindPad 100w". The Windpad comes at a price of Rs. 34,000 in India and it's slightly higher on the price. Does it stand well on the features side and offer value for money? Let's find out -

MSI WindPad 100W Technical Overview:

Windpad 100W is India's first tablet PC that runs on Microsoft Windows 7 Operating Home Premium System. It makes us think that the tablet is aimed at home users and may not be an ideal choice for the business users. It has Intel Mobile CPU, 32GB SSD Storage, 2 Gigabytes of DDR2 RAM. 10" LCD screen supports resolution up to 1024x600. The LCD is full touch and utilizes MSI's WindTouch technology. The tab does 'okay' on the ports side. It comes with 1xUSB, 1xmini HDMI, DC in, H/P out, SD card reader and WiFi 802.11 b/g/n. The tablet weighs about 800 gm.

The impressive part is presence of 2 cameras one on the front and other on the back. We've had no information on the resolution of these cameras, but we'd expect it to have at least 3.2 MP camera (rear) and a VGA camera on the front for video conferencing. MSI has created WindFace software for face-based recognition. The tablet also features gravity sensor, light sensor and accelerometer. The tablet does about 6 hours on single battery charge, which is again not very impressive.

Considering the availability of  Apple iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab, NotionInk Adam and other brands, MSI's going to find it tough to break through the barrier. However those who willing to go for a tablet powered by Windows OS, don't have much choice at the moment. HP is yet to debut its Win7 powered tablets in Indian markets.

Given the price tag of Rs. 34990 and the competition, we believe the competition wins. What's your take?
