Motorola XOOM With "Honycomb" Android 3.0

Motorola PC Xoom - the next generation tablet runs on latest version of Google Android Operating System "Honeycomb". The tablet will make public debut in the first quarter of 2011. On the eve of Consumer Electronics Show 2011, Mr. Sanjay Jha - chief of Motorola Mobility spoke to the reporters. The tablet is similar in size with rival Apple's iPad. The screen is 10.1" wide, and this tablet is the first one to run on Android 3.0 (Honeycomb).

Android 3.0 is highly optimized for tablet PCs and boasts of improved GUI and faster performance while consuming lesser power. Mr. Jha also briefly discussed the multi-tasking abilities of the tablet.

Xoom is capable of display flash videos unlike its rival iPad. Xoom also supports front and back end cameras which were surprisingly missing in iPad. Xoom currently supports 3G connectivity and Motorola plans to launch the next version of Xoom later this year which will have 4G support. Mr. Jha also pointed out that existing 3G Xooms can be upgraded to 4G.

With over 200 firms launching their own tablet at CES 2011, it would be interesting to watch the tablet war pick up. I expect Xoom to face fierce competition from India's NotionInk Adam, which runs on customized version of Android and also has lot of features that were missing in iPad - which still rules the competition.
