Mitsubishi Electric To Build World's Fastest Elevator For Shanghai Tower

Japan's Mitsubishi Electric announced that they've received an order from Shanghai Tower Construction and Development Co. Ltd. to install world's fastest elevators. The tower is currently under construction at the Pudong district of Shanghai, China. The elevator will be the world's fastest elevator ever with a speed of 18m/sec aka whooping 59 ft/second! We are quite sure NASA would send their astronauts to Shanghai Tower for cheaper space training. The Guinness Book Of World Records current entry for fastest elevator lists elevator traveling at 16.8 meters (or 55 feet) per second. Once the tower is complete, the three sets of elevators will operate between the second basement and the observation deck located on 119th floor. The Mitsubishi Electric company will supply all the 106 elevators to be used in Shanghai Tower.

The new high-speed elevators will feature latest technology and also have active roller guides, sleek roof covers to compensate lateral vibrations and noise. The engineers will also install pneumatic control systems to handle the rapid changes in atmospheric pressure. Once completed, the Shanghai Tower will be the tallest buildings in China. Company's EVP, Mitsuo Muneyuki says that it's an honor for them to be selected to supply all the elevators for Shanghai Tower. The company is developing newer transportation systems for high-rise building and skyscrappers.
