Microsoft Kinect Employed In Stroke Rehab System
A home recovery system developed for the stroke patients employs Microsoft's Kinect device. The Southampton University  team which is behind this development believes that the gesture control of Kinect will track the finger movements and hand joint angles thus motivating them to practice specific exercises. Patients shall be following a set of exercises shown on the TV screen, while the collected data would be fed back to the doctors supervising the patient, thereby decreasing the number of his visits to the hospital, making this a convenient affair for both the patient and the doctor.

Most of the patients found the earlier home recovery system quite boring and repetitive, so the researchers used Kinect to better this system as it was commercially available and was both cost effective plus practicable. This latest system comes following the recent Stroke Association report which claimed that the stroke patients don't receive sufficient care once they leave hospital. The teamâs also working on a series of computer games which shall render the rehabilitation process more engaging for the patient by readjusting to each patientâs capability and giving back higher scores if their joint movements get better.
