Mercedes-Benz To Add QR Code Stickers To Facilitate Crash Rescue

During any car crash in Germany rescue personnel like firefighters, police and paramedics have to rely on unique rescue sheets specific for each vehicle made by ADAC, the German Automobile Association that helps them to locate critical components like airbags, batteries, fuel tanks, electric cables, high-pressure cylinders and in case of hybrids the location of the additional batteries and high-voltage cables that they need to avoid while using the rescue shears to cut open the vehicle to rescue the victim. So drivers are always advised by the automakers to carry the rescue sheet with them at all times. But in many cases Daimler, the makers of Mercedes-Benz have noticed that the drivers neglect to keep this important sheet with them and rescue workers have to call the company to obtain the rescue sheet for the car by its registration number and during this time precious seconds are lost in the rescue operation. So Daimler had to come up with the idea of pasting Quick Response (QR) codes stickers containing the web address of the rescue sheet of that make and model.

QR Code

These QR stickers will be put on the fuel tank flap and on the B-pillar on the opposite vehicle side because these locations have very less chances of being damaged during a crash. In order to encourage other automobile companies to implement this innovation Mercedes-Benz has waived the right to a patent registration in order to make the system available to everyone.
