hi. i am not a formally educated/trained engineer, just a hobbyist.

I am looking for recommendations for a material that is thin and flexible enough to be coiled, but wants to be straight. the behavior would be like that of a tapemeasure (metal tape), but less inclined to bend at a point as they do, and experience as little metal fatigue as possible. it need only support its own weight vertically 120 or more inches.

any help / info is much appreciated.

thanks!

If the end use is given maybe better suggestions may result. Does it have to uncoil once only or has it to be repeatedly coiled and uncoiled?

Will there be wind loads?
