Kingston MobileLite Wireless Flash Reader Review

Think of a situation where you are traveling with your family or friends on a bus and all of you want to watch the movie you have on your HDD or phone. You now have two options: Either watch it on someone's phone together (not quite smart) OR copy the movie to everyone's phone or tablet so that each one can view it on his/her phone. But that's not smart either! The product folks at Kingston have engineered a product that gets you covered and also lets you charge your phone as a power bank. Quite good, right? Kingston sent over their MobileLite Wireless Flash Reader (which also acts as a power bank) for us to review.

The Kingston Wireless Reader retails for #-Link-Snipped-# and the the Wireless G2 is available for #-Link-Snipped-#. Before we go on writing about our impressions of the product, let's give you a quick overview of the salient features of this gadget:-

What's In The Box

Whats-In-The-Box

The product package contains the main unit (brick), a micro-USB to USB cable and a card adapter so that you can use your mobile phone's microSD card. The built of the main unit is solid and it has Kingston branding at the top, two USB ports (USB 2.0 and Micro-USB) on one side and an SD Card slot on the opposite side. There are three indicator lights that give you visual feedback on the status of the device (on/off, broadcasting on and internet status). There's also a tiny power on/off button just under the indicator lights. You won't need to refer to the product manual to figure out how to make this work. It's simple!

Using The Kingston MobileLite Wireless Flash Reader

Using the MobileLite is pretty straightforward. The first thing you will have to do is download a dedicated app from Kingston from #-Link-Snipped-# Or #-Link-Snipped-#. Load the app on your phone. Pressing the power on button for about three seconds will make the indicator lights glow. You will now have to head over to the wi-fi settings on your phone and selection MobileLite wireless connection. Once connected, you should attach your card, USB or external storage to the main brick and then run the app on your phone.

The app is quick enough to recognize any external storage connected. It will list out all the files on your phone and will let you view or stream directly off the storage device. I tried streaming files on two android devices and it worked as expected. The app also lets you transfer files to and fro between the storage media and your phone.

Connecting-To-App

Power Bank

One of the most useful advantage of the MobileLite is that it can charge your phone through USB port. So even if you don't want to use it to stream / store your media, you can carry the MobileLite as your travel companion.

Verdict: The Kingston MobileLite is a three-in-one device: a card reader + wireless streamer + power bank and if you are out in the market looking for these you may consider buying the MobileLite. It does everything as advertised and that's all about it. I couldn't find any specific negative points about the product except that the android app took more than expected time to read the large MP4 file I had on my USB drive. The app was almost instant in recognising the newly connected storage media and reading small videos and audio files.

Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with what the product offers for the price point.
