Kingdom Tower (Height: 1 Km) @ Jeddah To Be Designed By AS+GG

The Arabs love to break records and when it comes to constructing tallest towers in the world, money is no bar for them. We informed you few days ago that  Kingdom Tower will steal the title of the World's Tallest Building from Burj Khalifa (Recommended: Small Talk with Bill Baker - Chief Structrual Engineer Of Burj Khalifa). However, engineering the design of world's next tallest building is no simple job. Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill architecture has won the contract to design the Kingdom Tower at Jeddah near the Red Sea. The owners wanted to build a mile long tower, however the soil analysis at the construction site restricted the total height of the tower at one kilometer. AS+GG says the new tower will beat Burj Khalifa by at least 173 meters.

Quick facts about Kingdom Tower are as follows: The total construction area is 530k square meters. As of now, the foundation drawings are complete and construction is set to begin very soon. The final building will have 59 elevators, 12 escalators. The  elevators will travel at the speed of 10 meters/second. The total cost of building Kingdom Tower will be $1.2b. The Kingdom Tower is a brainchild of His Royal Highness Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud. AS+SG calls their design of the tower as "highly technological and distinctly organic".
