KARSHAK MITHRA - THE AGRIBOT

Project Abstract / Summary : Developed agriculture needs to find new ways to improve efficiency. One approach is to utilise available information technologies in the form of more intelligent machines to reduce and target energy inputs in more effective ways than in the past. Precision Farming has shown benefits of this approach but we can now move towards a new generation of equipment. The advent of autonomous system architectures gives us the opportunity to develop a complete new range of agricultural equipment based on small smart machines that can do the right thing, in the right place, at the right time in the right way.

This project is developed for the use in agricultural areas such as harvesting and sprinkling fertilizers and water in fields. The robot will work in both automatic mode and manual mode according to the user choice. The robot is controlled by a remote unit. The hardware structure of robot includes motor unit and tank – pump unit for sprinkling . The heart of the circuit is pic 16f877a microcontroller in remote unit and in the robot. The remote and robots communicates with a bit transmitter module. Separate motor driving units drive the motors in the robot .The wireless camera provided in the robot capture image and pass to pc for processing .The P C is equipped with matlab software.

This project deals with automatic manure supply and weed removal robot which assists the present day farmers for enhancing crop production. This project make use of digital image processing with which crops and weeds can be identified. The robot apply fertilizer if the plant is a crop and it sprays herbicide if it is a weed.

Why did you choose to work on this project topic : Agriculture is humankind’s oldest and still its most important economic activity, providing the food, feed, fiber, and fuel necessary for our survival. With the global population expected to reach 9 billion by 2050, agricultural production must double if it is to meet the increasing demands for food and bioenergy. India's main economy comes from agriculture. Therefore technological advancements done in this area will improve Indian economy. Also in the present era the farmers are in a great scarcity of laborers for working in farms and fields. This robot helps the farmers not to rely on laborers for spraying weedicides and supplying fertilizers. Therefore the labor cost can be reduced and supply of fertilizers in required amount can be enhanced. And by this effort the farming technique is modernized and made easy. In future this project can be modified so that it can do ploughing, harvesting , testing humidity and pH of soil by integrating suitable technologies into this.
