Karnataka Mobile-One App For Seamless Integration Of All e-Governance Services In Karnataka

With an objective of taking governance to the people, Karnataka has launched an e-Governance app titled ‘Karnataka MobileOne’. This app will incorporate the multiple services of central government, the state government as well as private sector. The platform that will provide more than 4,500 services and 24x7x365 days support was launched by President Pranab Mukherjee in the presence of Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The types of services provided are Government-to-Citizen (G2C), Business-To-Consumer (B2C) and Government-to-Business (G2B) services.

Citizens can also access the services by dialing 3-digit number- [HASHTAG]#161[/HASHTAG]. The app will be available for free on digital distribution platform like iOS and Google Play. The telecommunication services companies such as BSNL, Airtel, Vodafone, Reliance, Idea and Aircel are participating in this platform. Different payment methods such as Credit Card (Visa/ MasterCard, American Express), Internet Banking, Debit Card (Visa/ MasterCard, Maestro, RuPay), IMPS, Cash Cards and Telecom Wallets are provided for payments by this app.

The services provided by MobileOne are categorized as follows:

Utilities: View or pay bills for services such as electricity and water.
Police: Access to the services like traffic police city police and crime records bureau.
Healthcare: Allow to choose best healthcare service providers and find blood banks, labs and pharmacies.
Taxes: Allow to file and pay income tax and property tax.
Municipal: Apply for birth and death certificates, pay property tax, et al.
Agriculture: SMS alerts for weather and various commodity prices.

Education: View exam results and also provides applications for re-totaling and re-evaluation.
Transport: Provides services such as RTO services, BMTC services, Cab booking, et al.

iCare, an initiative by the government, is another salient feature of this app. It will enable the citizens to report civic, safety and other issues to the concerned department. The service like mPower service that allows citizens to contact the pre-configured contacts at the time of an emergency is also available.

It seems like the initiative taken by the Karnataka government will be a huge help and save a lot of time of the state citizens with these utility services. The younger generation is surely going to take advantage of the available facilities. However, will the older people, the large percentage of villagers, and the lower economy groups really use this app? Only time can tell us that. What are your thoughts about this app?
