Jolla Smartphone Features Sailfish OS; Ex-Nokia Engineers Reveal Specs & Price

It is official. Jolla, the Sailfish OS featuring smartphone is here. Developed by a team of Ex-Nokia engineers, Jolla is the first smartphone to feature the Sailfish OS and has got an interesting range of features. Talking about the operating system, the folks over at Jolla have promised frequent system updates OTA (over-the-air) and so the users will have to stay hooked to know more about upcoming features. According to Jolla's tech specs list published on their website, the smartphone features an Ample 4.5-inch IPS qHD display with 5-point multi-touch. The screen is well protected with Corning Gorilla 2 Glass.

Powered by 1.4 GHz Qualcomm Dual Core processor, the Jolla Sailfish OS smartphone features 16 GB storage with 1 GB RAM and expandable memory slot using MicroSD card. On the camera front, the phone offers a 8 megapixel camera with LED flash on the rear end and a 2 megapixel front-facing one. Thanks to a 2100 mAh battery, the Jolla smartphone offers talk time of up to 9-10 hours and keeps the phone pretty lightweight at 141 g. For the user's connectivity needs, Jolla provides support for GSM, 3G, 4G and LTE (Works on 6 continents). Users can have access to Bluetooth 4.0 and WLAN. On the smartphone's body, you'll find a USB 2.0 port, a standard 3.5mm 4-pin audio jack and a MicroUSB connectivity and charging port.

Back in May, Jolla's team told us that its smartphone will be "Jolla's Sailfish OS Running Smartphone Is Android App Compliant". They shared that some Android apps can be run with the help of Myriad's Alien Dalvik software without any alteration. Thus, the new Jolla smartphone is now compatible with 85,000 Android apps available on Google Play Store. Jolla also sports changeable smart covers, and includes app for Nokia's HERE maps covering 180 countries. Available in 9 different, vibrant colors, the Jolla smartphone will first launch in Finland (Nokia's homeland) on wednesday and then in 135 other countries at a price of 399 euros (approx. Rs. 33,700).

"The launch does not mark the end to product development, it goes on in cooperation with the consumers," Jolla CEO Tomi Pienimaki said. It is for sure that Jolla has entered a vastly competitive market and will take time to make its presence felt. But it is already creating raves.     Update: From what's being reported, only 450 Jolla phones will be available at launch on Wednesday evening, because the majority of the stock is going to customers who have pre-ordered the device!
