JEE 2011 Toppers Prefer IIT-Bombay

The stats have traditionally confirmed that IIT Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) top rankers prefer to secure seat in IIT-Bombay. The institute has emerged as the most preferred engineering institute in India for the B.Tech studies. JEE 2011 results were #-Link-Snipped-#recently. The institute was established in 1958 at Powai, a northern suburb of Mumbai. Computer Science seems to be the most preferred discipline among all the toppers. Record number of placements and salaries offered to IITB students seems to one of the top reasons for the choice. In 2009, 62 of the top 100 opted for IITB and in 2010, the number jumped to 69.

Shubham Mehta, the 2nd topper in JEE 2011, wants to be a computer science engineer and has chosen IIT-B. He thinks that Mumbai (Bombay) being the financial capital of India offers unparalleled corporate exposure. He thinks it will give him an added advantage. Shubham is joined by many others who are dropping IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur and IIT Delhi for IIT Bombay; given the proven placements record of IITB students. Shubham believes that the IIT-B offers most successful incubation center for entrepreneurship. Mr. Manoj Sharma, VP of Resonance IIT JEE Coaching Institute in Kota says that incubation center at IIT Bombay has produced most number of successful entrepreneurs in CS which does not require heavy infrastructure.

In choosing the discipline; computer science engineering has taken a lead with nearly 60% of the students opting for it followed by about 25% students opting for electrical engineering.
