Japan Display Conceives a High-Res 2.3" LCD Panel With World's Smallest Pixel Pitch Of 651ppi

Japan Display has created a prototype high resolution 651ppi LCD panel, with a 2.3". screen size using LTPS technology. First announced in June this year, the display resolution is a smart 1280x800, similar to regular notebook PCs. But with a pixel pitch of just 39?m, this is double the resolution of presently available smartphones, and is also free of artifacts like jagged lines/characters visible in displays with larger pixels.

Resolution of the human eye is around 300ppi, so anything close to that limit makes the three-dimensional object on screen appear more realistic. The small pixel pitch even lets images be displayed with a resolution as good as film-based photos, and studies prove that high resolution is beneficial for the human visual perception system. Now onwards, Japan Display shall be considering just specific products and applications as per the emerging needs.
