ISRO GSAT-8 Launch Successful - Rs. 675 Crore Satellite To Boost DTH

We informed you that GSAT-8 launch, which was earlier scheduled on May 20th was #-Link-Snipped-# because the company responsible for the launch, ARIANESPACE required additional checks. ISRO thought it would be better late than never as it had experienced the failure of #-Link-Snipped-# in past. However, the launch of GSAT-8 was successful. The satellite was put into orbit at 03:58 hrs (IST) on May 21 from Kourou, French Guiana. The mission is critical for ISRO as it's spent over Rs. 675 crore in design, development and construction of this satellite meant to boost the DTH and radio networking services in India.

ISRO had appointed a team of 500 researchers, scientists and engineers to work on the GSAT-8 project. The satellite was put into orbit by firing the 440 Newton Liquid Apogee Motor (LAM) for about 95 minutes. The satellite was completely remote controlled from ISRO's Master Control Facility (MCF) at Hassan in Karnataka. With the LAM, GSAT-8 perigee has been raised to 15,786 km & apogee is at 35,768 km. The orbital period of GSAT-8 is about 15 hours and 56 minutes.

Congratulations to ISRO for the successful launch. Shall we start expecting better DTH services from now on?
