Is a small Career stint in CAD and CAE a good idea?

Hello Friends,
I am a mechanical engineering graduate, currently doing a diploma course in CAD (AutoCAD, Pro-Engineer, CATIA, SolidWorks) and CAE (AnSYS). I was planning to continue my studies by going to the US next year but that plan got dashed due to a few problems.
Now i wish to go the yera after the next (June 2013).

Will it be a good addition to my resume if i work in something associated with CAD and CAE for a year before going to the US? Any additional or different suggestions that you have? Your suggestions will be valued.

P.S.: My career interest lies in automobiles and fluid dynamics
